Escape to Paradise: Happy Bun Hotel, Dalat's Hidden Gem
Escape to Paradise: Happy Bun Hotel - Dalat: My Honest (and Messy) Review
Okay, listen. I just got back from Dalat, and I'm still slightly dreaming of pine trees and that crisp mountain air. I'm also, frankly, obsessed with the Happy Bun Hotel. Seriously. Escape to Paradise: Happy Bun Hotel… that's exactly what it feels like. And, full disclosure, I'm terrible at writing reviews. Like, truly bad. But I have to tell you about this place. So buckle up, because this is gonna be a wild ride. Prepare yourself for everything.
The Accessibility (and My Awkwardness):
Before I dive in, a quick word on access. The hotel says it has facilities for disabled guests. I'm not disabled, so I can't fully attest to that, but I did notice an elevator (thank the heavens, because Dalat has some serious hills!). I also didn’t see a ton of overly challenging areas in the public spaces. I’d still recommend reaching out to them directly if you have specific needs. Look, I'm being honest, I can't be 100% about that.
The Vibe: Is it Really Paradise?
Yes. And no? (I know, I'm conflicting). It's definitely paradise in the sense of escape. It’s tucked away, lush with greenery, and the air just smells different. It's the kind of place where you forget the world exists, or at least you want to. Now, for the imperfections. I got lost the first time I tried to find my room – maybe a little more directional signage would be nice.
The Rooms: My Little Cozy Bubble (and Minor Quirks)
First impressions? Oh my… bliss. I had a room with a window that opens! Honestly, a small thing, but after spending days in stuffy cities, it felt like pure freedom. Air conditioning in all rooms is a must. Free Wi-Fi was amazing, I'll give them that. Having a laptop workspace was a lifesaver – had to do some remote work (bleh!). The in-room safe box was reassuring, and a refrigerator was perfect for late-night cravings. Complimentary tea was a nice touch, and the slippers were…well, I wore them the entire time. They also had a private bathroom, a separate shower/bathtub, and hair dryer, all really important. The blackout curtains saved me from the sunrise’s relentless attacks.
Okay, little confession. The first night, the bathtub plug wouldn't stay in. I spent like 15 minutes, like a fool, trying to figure it out, which led to an exasperated outburst only to realize… it's probably a tiny issue that's been reported. But hey, nobody's perfect!
Food, Glorious Food (and My Deepest Food Desires):
- Dining, Drinking, and Snacking: Alright, let's get to the good stuff. Breakfast [buffet] included! And it was pretty darn good. Lots of Asian breakfast options, but also your classic Western breakfast. The Asian cuisine in restaurant was spectacular. I tried the Bun Bo Hue – mind-blowingly delicious. They had a coffee shop and a bar by the pool, the poolside bar was great. I'm almost certain I spent a significant amount of time there. Seriously, they had desserts in restaurant that were worth all the calories. And get this, they had room service [24-hour]! Yes, I know, lazy, but when you're in paradise, who cares? The bottle of water in your room is also a godsend. The snack bar saved my life during late afternoon hunger pangs. The Vegetarian restaurant option was a real plus for my friend.
- Things I Didn't Try (but Wish I Had): I heard rumors about amazing salad in restaurant and soup in restaurant, but my stomach capacity failed me this time.
- Food for Thought (and Safety): They took things seriously with Safe dining setup, Sanitized kitchen and tableware items, Individual-wrapped food options. They also offered Alternative meal arrangement which is nice.
Relaxation Station: So much Relaxation!
Okay, this is where the Happy Bun really shines.
- Pool with View: The outdoor swimming pool [outdoor] was amazing. And the pool with view lived up to its name. Seriously, it's where all my stress melted away.
- Spa-ing: Yes, Spa! They have a Sauna and a Steamroom - excellent. They also had a Body scrub and a Body wrap. And oh, the massage. I may have scheduled one every single day. In fact, I think I might have become a bit obsessed with the Spa/sauna. I was the most relaxed I've been in years.
- Other Relaxing Things: There's a Foot bath, too!
Wellness & Workouts
- Fitness Center and Gym/Fitness: I went to the Gym/fitness once, just to feel guilty, but I was so busy relaxing.
- Anti-Viral Cleaning Products: The hotel was using Anti-viral cleaning products which is something positive.
Cleanliness and Safety: Do I Trust Them?
Honestly? Yes! I'm a bit of a germaphobe (don't judge), and I felt totally safe. They had Hand sanitizer everywhere, Daily disinfection in common areas, I saw staff Staff trained in safety protocol, and they were very careful. Rooms sanitized between stays, too. They even let you skip Room sanitization opt-out available, and they had Sterilizing equipment. They took safety seriously.
Services and Conveniences: Did They Think of Everything?
Pretty much. Seriously.
- The Basics: Daily housekeeping was impeccable. Laundry service and Dry cleaning were super convenient. They have Cash withdrawal, the concierge was fantastic!
- Fun Stuff: They have a Gift/souvenir shop and a Car park [free of charge].
- Business Stuff (if you must): They had Business facilities, and a Meeting/banquet facilities
- A Few Quirks: They had a Shrine. And for some reason, a Smoking area.
For the Kids (and Your Inner Child):
They're definitely Family/child friendly, with Kids facilities - I saw a few happy little ones running around.
Getting Around:
They offer Airport transfer and a Taxi service. Car park [on-site] is also available.
The "Meh" Stuff:
I didn't really use any Audio-visual equipment for special events, Meetings, or stay for a seminar. No need for me.
My Anecdote: The Poolside Bar and the Pineapple Juice
Okay, here's a true story. One afternoon, I was by the pool, slowly sipping a pineapple juice. The sun was setting, casting this incredible golden light over everything. I overheard a couple arguing (thankfully, not my problem!), and then this little kid, maybe five years old, ran past me screaming "MOMMY! I want more PINEAPPLE JUICE!" It somehow perfectly summed up the experience: perfect, imperfect, and utterly delightful all at once.
The Verdict: Highly Recommended (with a Minor Caveat)
This place is special. I genuinely felt like I escaped. There are some slight imperfections? Yes. But the good news? Those things will probably be fixed by the time you arrive. So, would I go back? In a heartbeat.

Luxury Vietnam Cruise: Unforgettable Verdure Lotus Halong Bay Experience
Okay, buckle up Buttercup! This isn't your sanitized, perfectly polished travel itinerary. This is a human experience, Dalat style, from the gloriously quirky Happy Bun Hotel. Prepare for rambling, over-enthusiasm, and a whole lot of "wait, what was I doing again?" Here we go…
Happy Bun Hotel, Dalat - A Messy, Wonderful Itinerary (aka My Attempt to Survive Vietnam With My Sanity… Maybe)
Day 1: Arrival and the Great Bun Hunt
Morning (aka Disaster Strikes… Gently):
- Arrived at Lien Khuong Airport (DLI). Smiled weakly at the airport people, hoping they didn't notice the panic sweat. Smooth customs! Victory!
- Picked up a pre-booked Grab (I like to front-load my organization skills - it usually pays off, right?). The driver, a smiling mountain of a man named Mr. Tuan, drove like a… well, like a Vietnamese man. Let's just say I learned a whole new appreciation for seatbelts.
- Arrived at Happy Bun Hotel. Oh. MY. GOD. The photos don’t even begin to do it justice. Think whimsical, colorful, and possibly designed by a very enthusiastic gnome. Check-in was a breeze, except for the tiny incident of me accidentally calling the lovely receptionist “Bunny” (it was the name of the hotel, I swear!). My room: a riot of bright paint, crocheted throws, and a balcony that overlooks… well, some other rooftops, but it's Dalat!
Afternoon: The Bun Quest Begins! (and the Banh My Regret)
- After dropping my bags and having a quick 15-minute lie down to process the information (the room is amazing!), I was ready to take on Dalat. First stop: the eponymous bun. I'd heard tales of its deliciousness.
- Bun Bo Hue Quest: Finding the best Bun Bo Hue – a spicy, beef-noodle soup that's a Dalat delicacy – became an obsession. I wandered the streets, smelling everything. The first place I stumbled upon was… okay. Edible. But not… life-changing. This is going to be harder than I thought.
- Banh My Mistake: Now, I am not generally a picky eater, but the Banh My in a tiny shop down the street was a bad idea, I am not entirely sure what went into it, but the meat looked like it had existed since the ancient dinosaurs.
Evening: Market Mayhem and Midnight Noodles
- Crazy for Market: Dalat Night Market! Holy moly, this place is sensory overload in the best way. So many clothes I did not need, dried fruits I had to try (the persimmons were a religious experience! And the strawberries. Oh, the strawberries!), and enough street food to make my stomach churn with both excitement and a healthy dose of fear. The air was thick and buzzing…it was a party. I bought a scarf. And a hat. And a pair of gloves (it gets surprisingly chilly at night).
- Midnight Noodle Rescue: Back at the hotel, slightly overwhelmed. Then I remembered the craving for more Bun Bo Hue! Found a 24-hour noodle shop. This one? Perfection. I ate like a bear before hibernation. Pure, unadulterated slurping bliss.
Day 2: Waterfalls, Crazy Houses, and Cranky Calves
Morning: The Love of Waterfalls
- Datanla Waterfall: The plan was to conquer the cable car and the roller coaster at Datanla. I went for the cable car, it was scenic… I watched some people scream their heads off on the roller coaster (I am not brave enough).
- Then I slipped and almost face-planted down the side of a hill, but I caught myself on a bush. My sense of achievement took a momentary hit. On the plus side, the waterfall was majestic. Beautiful. Soaking wet, but still truly beautiful.
Afternoon: The Madhouse of My Dreams
- Crazy House: This place is insane! As in, completely off-the-wall, mind-bending, architecture-defying insane. You're walking through caves and spiraling staircases. It's like stepping into a Tim Burton movie directed by Gaudi. I spent a good hour just wandering around, slack-jawed. Definitely worth the visit. I felt like I was exploring a storybook.
Evening: The Leg Day of Despair and a Sunset Dream
- Walking! I walked a lot today. My calves are screaming. I'm pretty sure I'm going to need a wheelchair by tomorrow.
- Sunset at Dalat Market: I went back to Dalat Market to get ingredients to make a meal. Sitting on the side of the lake as the sun sets over the city. Pure bliss.
Day 3: Coffee, Canyons, and Existential Dread (and more Buns!)
Morning: The Coffee Revelation
- Weasel Coffee: I decided to try Weasel or Civet coffee. I am going to be honest here, I am not entirely sure the ethics behind Weasel Coffee. However, I tried it, and it tasted.. well, just okay. And I felt terrible.
- Coffee Plantation: This, on the other hand, was a truly magical experience. The air was filled with the aroma of roasting beans.
Afternoon: Canyon Cravings
- Dalat Canyon: Okay, the canyon has a lot of different trails, but only a few are safe. I spent a couple of hours there, exploring, and taking pictures.
Evening: The Bun Bo Hue Redemption… and the Sad Goodbye
- Bun Bo Hue Quest, Take Two: After trying a few, the search for the perfect Bun Bo Hue continued. I kept trying place after place, but none were quite the same as the first.
- Goodbye, Happy Bun Hotel: Checking out of the Happy Bun Hotel was surprisingly emotional. I'm not sure if it was the quirky charm, the friendly staff, or the feeling of being utterly, completely myself while I was there, but leaving felt like saying goodbye to a friend.
Final Thoughts (and General Rambling):
Dalat. Wow. What a city! The Happy Bun Hotel was the pièce de résistance, and the experience was an explosion of flavors, sights, and… well, a lot of walking and some minor mishaps. I now feel slightly less terrified of the world and a whole lot more alive. And I will find that perfect bowl of Bun Bo Hue. Mark my words!
So, yeah… pack your bags, your sense of humor, and be prepared to be utterly, beautifully, imperfectly human in Dalat. You won't regret it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go look for another bowl of noodles… and maybe a nap.
